HISTORY of Bassegoda Park

Many years ago, the campsite land used to be a farm. In 1992, the “Càmping Bassegoda” campsite was established; a second-rate establishment mainly used as a trailer park.

Bassegoda Park as it is today was founded in 2005, when the Guerra family took over its management. From January of that year, a comprehensive adaptation and redevelopment process began of the Bassegoda Park infrastructure to make it a world-class campsite. The following year, 2006, sulphur water was found in a new well. For this reason, Bassegoda Park began the process to declare it as medicinal mineral water so that, in the future, it could become the first natural Spa Campsite in Catalonia and Spain.

The process was completed in October 2008, when the Catalan Minister Josep Huguet certified Bassegoda Park as a “world-class campsite”. Thanks to this transformation it became the first automated campsite in Catalonia and Spain, allowing Bassegoda Park to be more environmentally friendly by reducing energy consumption and greatly reducing light pollution as much as possible.

Bassegoda Park took another step forward in 2015, obtaining the Starlight Camp certificate accrediting it as a campsite that has activities promoting astronomy. Bassegoda Park became an astronomy campsite in 2017, when the Observatori Astronòmic Albanyà was built on the Camp de l’Illa and the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) granted Albanyà the International Dark-Sky Park certificate, the first in the whole of Spain.
